KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will host the Conference of the Asean Federation of Engineering Organisations (Cafeo 42), which is scheduled to take place in Kota Kinabalu on Oct 22-24, 2024.Deputy Chief Minister II cum Works Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya was briefed on the event by the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Sabah Branch delegation, led by its Chairman Willy Chin who paid a courtesy call on him, recently.
Chin, who is also Cafeo 42 Organising Chairman, provided a comprehensive update on the conference. Shahelmey, who has an engineering background and oversees engineering departments, pledged to support IEM Sabah. Shahelmey said such events not only serve as a crucial platform for engineering professionals and experts from across the Asean region to convene, exchange ideas and collaborate but also to contribute in Sabah’s economic growth.
Chin said 22 delegates from Sabah were among the 200 Malaysian engineers who participated in the three-day Cafeo 41 in Bali, Indonesia, last month. A significant highlight of Cafeo 41’s closing ceremony was the handover of the Asean Federation of Engineering Organisations (Afeo) flag from Indonesia to Malaysia, symbolising the change in chairmanship for the upcoming Cafeo.
