KOTA KINABALU, 7 October 2024 – Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, was today awarded the prestigious ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) Distinguished Honorary Fellow Award, in recognition of his visionary leadership and his understanding of the engineering sector’s vital role in driving these advancements.
The award ceremony, held at Menara Kinabalu, saw AFEO Chairman and President of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Ir Prof Dr Jeffrey Chiang Choong Luin, presenting the award to the Chief Minister.
Reading the award citation, AFEO Secretary-General, Ir. Prof. Dr David Chuah Joon Huang, noted that Chief Minister Hajiji’s contributions to Sabah’s economic and community development, coupled with his strong governance, made him a deserving candidate for the prestigious award.
The AFEO Distinguished Honorary Fellow Award is typically awarded prominent persons in high positions and rank and world-renowned figures who have rendered very substantial and outstanding services to the engineering profession, the Institution and the ASEAN nation.
“His (Hajiji) impactful contributions to community development, economic progress, and effective governance highlight a leader deeply committed to Sabah’s welfare. His adept governance, visionary policies, and understanding of the engineering community’s role make him a fitting candidate for recognition in the ASEAN region”, said Dr. Chuah
During the award presentation, the Chief Minister was also briefed on the upcoming CAFEO 42 by IEM Sabah Chairman Ir. Ts. Mohd Yaakob Hj. Jaafar and AER Head Commissioner Ir. Simon Yeong Chin Chow. The event promises to be a major gathering of engineering experts, focusing on the region’s growth through digital transformation and sustainable engineering practices.
This year’s 42nd edition of the conference, themed “Charting ASEAN Growth with Digital Transformation, Smart Engineering, and Green Solutions,” will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre from October 22 to 24. It is expected to attract between 1,200 and 1,500 participants, including leading professionals and engineers from across the ASEAN region.
